Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is paint correction?

  • The process of removing a thin layer of clear coat or paint to reduce or remove visibility of scratches.
  • This is done by a machine that spins an abrasive called a compound or polish which reacts like sandpaper to the painted surface.

Wax vs Sealant vs Ceramic

  • Waxes are made from natural resources such as carnauba, known to produce a very deep shine.
  • Hydrophobic.
  • No scratch resistance.
  • Last about 4-6 weeks.

  • Sealants are synthetically made chemicals that bond much better to paint, and provide superior protection to elements compared to wax.
  • Hydrophobic.
  • No scratch resistance.
  • Last up to six months.

  • Ceramic coating is synthetically formulated combining silicons and quartz that are semi-permanent to permanent while also provide the best protection.
  • Hardness level of up to 9H.
  • Requires paint polishing.
  • Long lasting hydrophobic.
  • Extremely glossy.
  • Prevents paint fading from UV.
  • Scratch resistant, not scratch proof.
  • Can last up to eight years.

What does hydrophobic mean?

  • Defined as “to repel or fail to mix with water.”
  • Creates beads of water on your paints surface.

What is hardness level?

  • 9H refers to the Moh scale of mineral hardness. Friedrich Mohs invented this scale in 1812, and it ranges from 1 to 10 with glass around 5 and diamond at the top of the scale.
  • A higher rated hardness level will last longer and provide better scratch resistance.

What type of coating should I choose?

  • Ceramic coating offers the best protection, gloss and water beading and requires the least amount of maintenance. Recommended for all vehicle types.
  • Sealant can be applied without paint polishing, and included in the Explicit Detail.
  • Wax is a special request item, as we include the ceramic topper in our Explicit Detail.

Why is ceramic / graphene coatings so expensive?

  • Your cars painted surfaces must be near perfect before application, requiring a lot of time to prepare that surface. If you do not make the paint surface perfect before applying a coating then beside not looking the best — it won’t last as long either.
  • If you were to apply ceramic coating over deep visible scratches of your cars paint, they would be locked in permanently and be extremely difficult to remove afterwards.
  • You need to have a very clean environment with perfect lighting to do a proper job.
    • Note: All ceramic coatings require a paint polishing package.

Can anyone apply a ceramic coating?

  • In the automotive world, typically — you get what you pay for.
  • The market offers “ceramic infused” products which any person may use, they offer added gloss and protection. They are not designed to compete with professionally applied ceramic coatings.
  • Professional grade ceramic coatings require proper training, do not have ceramic coatings installed by an non accredited installer.
  • You must have paint correction done prior to paint before application.

How long does ceramic coating take?

  • The process can take up to a few days in total.
  • Paint Correction or Polishing is an intense process and cannot be rushed. Expect 12 – 24 hours for the typical medium sized vehicle.
  • Recommended cure time (process of allowing ceramic to bond to your paint) is 48 hours.
